Saturday Morning Cartoons: portraits

caricatures

This morning, I had the pleasure of drawing for UCSC Alumni and their families on this miraculously clear day. A rainbow-like halo affixed itself around the sun, with those gigantic trees fluffing themselves in the wind above happy children and prouder parents. Typically, I’m used to portrait-style live illustrations, but since kids will be kids, I mostly worked from a distance; I drew two young twins blowing bubbles and playing with balloon animals, discussing Santa Cruz with their mother. We talked about the campus and the city alike–some things have changed, but no advancements in conserving space or increasing convenience could change this certain, natural, soothing enchantment in the air here.
Every alumnus that I talked to agrees that Santa Cruz is absolutely gorgeous, endlessly positive, and simply unique to anywhere else. And from what I’ve heard, this place itself is quite graceful with aging–So don’t forget to feel lucky today, because you’re in the one and only Santa Cruz, California!
