More progress on this pendant. I am starting to develop an overall shape with the decorative wire work.
Last week I finished adding on all the stone components that I’m going to be working with in this piece. Now I’ve begun to create the shape that will weave around the stones in the pendant. When working with multiple stones, I initially let the arrangement of the stones dictate what shape the piece will take. The initial phase of construction is very much about trying to get the formation of the stones locked in. This formation will start to be tweaked as I add more and more decorative wire wrapping or discover ways to make the piece be held together more solidly.
I started by adding a very thick piece of wire to create a strong frame for the piece. this wire will allow me to build more shapes around it, while keep the pendant feeling strong and not too flexible. I used a different color wire than all of the others I had been working with. I sometimes like to do that in order to give the piece a little extra pop of color. By next week I hope to have the shape of the piece locked in and to be working on the finer details of decoration.
