This week marks the opening of Small Works, Radius Gallery’s new exhibition and the last one on the venue’s schedule for the remainder of 2016. Small Works is an invitational gift show that Radius hosts annually, with a rotating group of new artists invited to display and sell work each year. The 2016 show will be featuring handmade gifts, wearables, housewares, and art objects by 12 local Santa Cruz artisans.
The focus of the exhibition is to have a strong representation of all different kinds of craftsmanship. Small Works will showcase a wide variety of mediums, including bags, jewelry, ceramics, wood, paintings, illustrations, glass, leather, textiles, framed collages, and prints. For the 2016 show, the 12 artists showing work include Nathan Bennett, Maya Delano, Alexander Glass, Rory Diller, Ann Hazels, Dee Hooker, Jewelry Toolery, Chance Lane, Andree LeBourveau, Rachel Riot, Nev Wallace-Wells, and Caroline Webster.
Radius Gallery is located at the Tannery Arts Center in Studio 127, and presents diverse work by talented local, regional, and international artists. Year-round exhibitions are curated by Director Ann Hazels, as well as by guest curators, and feature art from all disciplines. In addition to sharing visual art, the 1900 square foot venue is an intimate setting for performance art, including live music, dance, spoken word, and poetry readings. Radius also hosts lectures, creative projects, receptions, workshops, private parties, and other special events.
The venue reflects the strong cultural nature of the Tannery Arts Center and Santa Cruz County by engaging the community with ongoing opportunities to support and experience local creativity, including First Friday Santa Cruz and the Thursday Art Market. In addition to regular business hours throughout the month, Radius Gallery will be open for visitors to attend two “shopping nights” in celebration of Small Works. On December 15 and 21, 2016, guests will be able to browse and purchase work from 5:00 – 8:00 pm. As the artwork sells, artists will be replenishing their displays with new inventory. This holiday season support local artists and give the gift of art!
SMALL WORKS is on exhibition at Radius Gallery November 17 – December 23, 2016.
