MANY HANDS GALLERY
Many Hands Gallery in Capitola has been in business for almost 20 years showing and selling high quality artwork produced by around 100 local and national artists. The store represents an ongoing “core group” of artists as well as hosts a rotating number of guest artists. Many Hands features a large variety of mediums including wall art, paintings, ceramic, glass, sculpture, jewelry, fabric, and more. (It also has the added bonus of being across from Gayles Bakery.)
Artisans Gallery first opened in downtown Santa Cruz in 1976 as an artist cooperative, and is now owned by local Linnaea Holgers James. Linnaea continues the store’s longstanding tradition of selling only local art and American made objects, as well as provides the space for monthly rotating art shows. Artisans carries a wide selection, including jewelry, glass, ceramics, metal work, woodwork, housewares, cards, candles, bath products, toys, and games. Linnaea and her husband Peter also run Agency down the street from Artisans Gallery. As tribute to the storefront’s previous services as Santa Cruz Travel, Agency reflects creative elements of work and travel, and carries contemporary home goods and lifestyle accessories.
Radius Gallery at the Tannery Arts Center is in the midst of hosting Small Works, the multi-faceted venue’s yearly holiday gift show. Under the direction of artist Ann Hazels, the gallery presents rotating exhibitions of local, regional, and international artists. The 2016 Small Works show is displaying and selling the work of 12 Santa Cruz artisans.
