Self Portrait: Reference

self portrait

Today I worked on a number of self portraits, including a handful that were inspired by famous works of art. This is an unfinished detail shot of a self portrait I worked on in reference to the Birth of Venus by Alexandre Cabanel, a masterpiece that I find to be empowering–and is one of my all-time favorite paintings.

I think that every woman should think of herself as Venus at least every now and then. This is an image of me waking up from a nap in one of my coziest sweaters, an implication of female empowerment, body love/acceptance, and constant new beginnings (after a nap, of course).
