Whitney Romberg, a local artist very recently featured at First Friday (Things My Inner Voice Told Me, featured at Camouflage this month), focuses her work on “ideas of identity being queer, multi racial, and female bodied,” as the artist herself explained. “I also like to show ideas of body positivity, going against norms of the American standard of beauty.” Her work has been featured in Melaninzine and has had a landslide of group and solo exhibitions since graduating from UC Santa Cruz.
Their ongoing project, Love Letters, represents the multitudes of various stages in romantic relationships. Romberg notes, “There isn’t a lot of artwork that is representative of female bodied queer couples, so while this project is very personal.” Parts 1 & 2 of Romberg’s series, Love Letters (which, as a warning, does contain nudity) as well as the rest of their work can be found on her website; the artist also has a tumblr.
