This week I had the pleasure of working on a custom piece for a friend of mine, working with a fluorite spear.
Its a special challenge to make a piece of jewelry based off of someone else’s vision. Most of the time, when I am creating I get to call all the shots and have full expression of my creative vision. In this case, I had to keep the vision of my friend in mind.
The customer wanted minimal wire across the face of the stone. The fluorite is so beautiful on its own, so I was really using the wire to hold the stone. The silver wire also compliments the blues and purples in the fluorite. Many of the pieces I make are with copper wire. I like the color of antiqued copper wire, but solid silver wire is much stronger and more reliable to work with.
I’m looking forward to unveiling this piece to its owner!
