Get ready to peruse the written word and impressive prints at the Museum of Art and History’s upcoming Poetry and Book Arts event. As one of the museum’s ongoing 3rd Friday series, the evening festivities will include performances and participatory workshops featuring the best of Santa Cruz County literary arts.
Performances will include poetry readings from some of Santa Cruz’s new and seasoned creative writers including Nancy Miller Gomez, William Ward Butler, and Carolyn Brigit Flynn. The readings will be hosted by Poetry Santa Cruz and Cabrillo College: Poetry for the People.
The MAH’s workshops will feature exciting opportunities for becoming involved with book arts through community activities. Participants will be inspired to write their own or group poems, stories, and collective narratives; create mini-books, bookmarks, cyanotype series, pocket zines and paper quilts; practice bookbinding, Haiku, and calligraphy; decorate postcards for positive civic action, and purchase artwork.
Guest collaborators will include Cabrillo College students, artist Veronica Wang, artist Emily Patchin, children’s author Thecla Campbell, UCSC Chinquapin Literary Magazine editors, Little Giant Collective and Print Organise Protest, Santa Cruz Word Church, Young Writers Program, Kids Art Congress, Magdalena Montagne, Kevin Zavala-Zimerer, Chloe Tsolakoglou, and MAH Interns Marilyn Padilla and Radhika Tandon.
